Priesthood Encampment Objectives & Rules
Objectives
- Help our young men to learn they can do hard things. This is wisdom needed for missions, college, and life.
- We will do this by going on a 50 mile backpacking trip where each person will carry everything they need for the week. The hike will be moderately challenging, but we will also do a very difficult service project of clearing trail through a burn area. We expect this hike to challenge all.
- This experience should be rewarding.
- Doing hard things
- Learning more about yourself
- Providing meaningful service
Rules
- Each person will walk and carry their own equipment and their share of their group’s equipment in a pack on their own back (no personal horses, etc. because then it is too easy)
- There will be no camp fires. With the number of people we will have and the level of poor judgement exhibited by many in years past, fires are a bad idea.
- Everybody will only drink purified water
- Help others and work together, do your part, and, don’t leave others in the dust because then you cannot be available to make somebody else’s day better
- Do not go off alone, use the buddy system (definition of the buddy system – there’s carnivorous kritters in them thar woods so always have somebody with yerself that you can beat in a foot race)
- Adults will be examples by adhering to the same expectations as the young men
