Objectives & Rules of the Priesthood Encampment

Priesthood Encampment Objectives & Rules
Objectives
  1. Help our young men to learn they can do hard things.  This is wisdom needed for missions, college, and life.
  2. We will do this by going on a 50 mile backpacking trip where each person will carry everything they need for the week.  The hike will be moderately challenging, but we will also do a very difficult service project of clearing trail through a burn area.  We expect this hike to challenge all.
  3. This experience should be rewarding.
    • Doing hard things
    • Learning more about yourself
    • Providing meaningful service
This experience should build, or help develop the self-discipline needed to build, testimonies.  There will be opportunities to be taught and to learn about the gospel.

Rules
  1. Each person will walk and carry their own equipment and their share of their group’s equipment in a pack on their own back (no personal horses, etc. because then it is too easy)
  2. There will be no camp fires.  With the number of people we will have and the level of poor judgement exhibited by many in years past, fires are a bad idea.
  3. Everybody will only drink purified water
  4. Help others and work together, do your part, and, don’t leave others in the dust because then you cannot be available to make somebody else’s day better
  5. Do not go off alone, use the buddy system (definition of the buddy system – there’s carnivorous kritters in them thar woods so always have somebody with yerself that you can beat in a foot race)
  6. Adults will be examples by adhering to the same expectations as the young men
